Askar Mamin instructs to develop projects for effective use of 5G and accelerate connection of villages to high-speed Internet

At a Government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, issues of providing broadband Internet access in rural areas and 5G development were considered.

Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Askar Zhumagaliyev and Chairman of the Board of Kazakhtelecom JSC Kuanyshbek Yessekeyev reported on the progress of the work in the direction.

According to the instructions of Elbasy given at the XVIII Congress of the Nur Otan Party and the Head of State in the Address to the people of Kazakhstan dated Sep. 2, 2019, the social and engineering infrastructure of rural areas is being modernized as part of the “Auyl – El Besіgi” project.

Until the end of 2022, 5089 villages should be provided with Internet access, which makes up 95% of rural settlements. This will allow the villagers to access the benefits of obtaining electronic public services and services, medical services and education, electronic commerce, as well as the widespread transition to new living standards.

The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan is carrying out work on the construction of fiber-optic communication lines in rural settlements (1,250 by 2020), providing LTE coverage and laying wireless radio access networks (6019). At the same time, a new generation of 5G communications is developing to provide wireless broadband access, the Internet of things, and the organization of high-speed technologies. Currently, 5G test tests are conducted in the cities of Nur-Sultan and Almaty, in October 2019, they are planned to be held in Shymkent.

The prime minister instructed the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and the Aerospace Industry, together with telecom operators, to accelerate the construction of fiber-optic communication lines in the regions and connect rural settlements to high-speed Internet.

“It is necessary to ensure the unconditional fulfillment of the orders of Elbasy and the Head of State on conducting high-speed Internet in the countryside. This work should be completed in a timely manner - by 2022,” Mamin said.

The prime minister noted the need to adequately prioritize the use of 5G, for which, in 2020, relevant projects should be developed for the effective use of 5G in the regions, and at the first stage in the city of Nur Sultan.

Mamin also drew the attention of the Ministry of Digital Development to the quality of communication and the Internet, especially in social facilities.

“Schools and hospitals should have high-quality Internet with high speed - this is required for the use of electronic textbooks and curricula, telemedicine and information systems,” the prime minister emphasized.
