GDP growth for January-July 2019 reached 4.2% — Askar Mamin

At the Government session chaired by the Prime Minister Askar Mamin, the results of socio-economic development and implementation of the republican budget for January-July 2019 were considered, and the preparation for the start of the new school year was discussed.

Ministers of national economy Ruslan Dalenov, industry and infrastructure development — Roman Sklyar, Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Erbolat Dossaev, First Vice Minister of Finance Berik Sholpankulov reported on the first issue on the agenda of the meeting.

On the results of socio-economic development of the regions, akims of the Almaty region Amandyk Batalov, Zhambyl region Askar Myrzakhmetov, North Kazakhstan region — Kumar Aksakalov were heard.

The prime minister noted that in the context of the tasks set by the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at an expanded meeting held July 15, 2019, the main priorities of the Government are improving the quality of life, increasing population incomes, creating new jobs, improving the investment climate.

“The plan of specific measures approved by the results of the expanded meeting of the Government will have a positive impact on the further development of our economy,” said Mamin.

For January-July 2019, GDP growth amounted to 4.2% over the corresponding period last year. Positive growth is observed in construction — by 11.5%, trade — by 7.5%, transport sector — by 5.4%, manufacturing sector, including in mechanical engineering — by 17.7%, light industry — by 14.3 %, non-ferrous metals mining — by 17.2%, oil refining — by 5.1%.

At the same time, line ministries need to strengthen measures to achieve planned targets in coal mining, crude oil, the chemical industry, and ferrous metallurgy.

“Based on the results of 7 months, economic growth was achieved in Atyrau, Karaganda, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Turkistan and East Kazakhstan regions according to the basic indicators,” Mamin said and emphasized that “Akims and heads of state bodies and regions are personally responsible for achievement of the final result and planned development of budget funds.”

“For the timely and high-quality implementation of the initiatives of Elbasy and the instructions of the Head of State to improve the welfare of Kazakhstanis, it is necessary to continue to actively attract investments, create productive jobs, diversify the economy, increase productivity, promote exports, transfer technology and innovation,” the prime minister emphasized.

Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aimagambetov, as well as akims of the Turkistan Region Umirzak Shukeyev, Nur-Sultan — Altai Kulginov reported on the preparations for the start of the new school year.

Noting that today the readiness of schools for the new academic year is 85%, the head of Government emphasized the need to prepare all educational facilities by 100% by Sep. 1. Particular attention was given to the readiness of schools in Arys for the school year.

The prime minister, focusing on the provision of textbooks, transporting children, and organizing hot meals for schoolchildren, emphasized the need to “strengthen work on the execution of instructions of the Head of State at an expanded meeting of the Government on July 15, 2019, in terms of strengthening the material and technical base of educational institutions, including issues of computerization, digitalization of school processes."
