From Sep. 1, electronic textbooks to be posted for public access on website of Ministry of Education and Science

Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aimagambetov reported on preparations for the start of the new school year at the Government session.

The Ministry of Education and Science, together with local executive bodies, is working to provide textbooks, repair and commissioning of educational facilities, and the organization of transportation of children.

The network of preschool organizations increased by 279 organizations and amounted to 10,593 institutions with a contingent of 906.5 thousand children. The share of private kindergardens increased by 37.9%, which is 1.6% more compared to last year.

In the new academic year, schools plan to accept over 3 million children. It is expected that more than 405 thousand children will go to grade 1, which is 20 thousand more than last year. This year, the grades 4, 9, 10 will be trained under the new programs, next year — 11th grade. This completes the full transition.

As Aimagambetov noted, work continues with publishers to ensure the quality of textbooks. This year the project “Easy Portfolio” will be implemented. So, from Sep. 1, 2019, students and parents will have the opportunity to access and download electronic textbooks on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science. Monitoring of the textbooks shipment is carried out on a daily basis.

“By Sep. 1, 2019, all textbooks should be 100% delivered to each school. Akimats need to take this issue for daily monitoring,” Aimagambetov said.

In 6,678 schools of the republic, current repairs were carried out, major repairs were completed in 129, and continue in 194 schools.

Currently, 115 schools are being built at the expense of the republican budget, of which 57 are being introduced this year, 79 schools are being built at the expense of the local budget.

“Work has begun on the introduction of per capita regulatory funding in private schools. Before the introduction of per capita financing, there were 121 private schools, today — 146. Since January 2019, the republican budget has allocated funds for placing a state order in all existing private schools in the republic,” said the minister.

The state order has already been placed in 80 private schools with 22,310 student places.

As of Aug. 1, 2019, 25 private schools with 8,636 places were opened, and by the end of the year another 23 with 5,845 places will open. The total of 918 vehicles are used to transport 25,637 children to the school. In 2019, 49 new buses were purchased.

There are 821 colleges in the republic with a contingent of 488.7 thousand people. For the start of the academic year, 1,085 places in dormitories are being introduced.
