Government adopts comprehensive plans for socio-economic development of western regions

Comprehensive plans for the socio-economic development of the western regions were considered at the government session chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov.

On behalf of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the comprehensive plans adopted last year for the Mangystau and Atyrau regions were updated, and plans for the Aktobe and West Kazakhstan regions were developed.

“Plans should be aimed not just at the development of individual sectors of the economy, but also at solving such pressing problems as high-quality water supply, affordable education and healthcare, and the creation of new jobs,” Smailov said.

The Comprehensive Development Plan for the Aktobe Region for 2022-2025 includes the implementation of 92 activities for a total of 1.7 trillion tenge. It is planned to increase the volume of industry to 2.8 trillion tenge and create more than 39 thousand additional jobs.

By 2025, the West Kazakhstan region provides for the implementation of 116 activities for a total of 2.6 trillion tenge. More than 2,000 km of power grids will be modernized in the region, which will significantly reduce their wear and tear — from 80% to 50%. It is planned to create over 38 thousand new jobs, attract about 2.1 trillion tenge of private investment.

The updated Comprehensive Development Plan of the Atyrau Region for 2021-2025 includes the implementation of 182 activities for a total of 8.9 trillion tenge. Measures will be taken to prevent more frequent accidents in the power grid through the construction and reconstruction of 228.1 km of power lines. It is planned to create over 40 thousand new jobs, attract about 8.3 trillion tenge of private investment.

The Mangystau region provides for the implementation of 226 measures totaling 2.1 trillion tenge. It is planned to build and expand 9 desalination plants and installations, creating more than 55 thousand jobs.

In the documents, the main emphasis is on attracting extrabudgetary funds — the quasi-public sector and private investors.

“The main thing is that you must do everything so that the residents of the regions feel positive changes, see the prospect, be able to work and earn money, develop their business, receive treatment and study. It is necessary to use every opportunity to improve the quality of life of the population,” said Smailov, addressing the akimats of Mangystau, Atyrau, Aktobe and West Kazakhstan regions.
