Exhibition of applied art of Kazakhstan opened in Nur-Sultan: “Geography – Line of Cultural Perspective”

The exposition includes exhibits of the ArlanDesign art gallery, felt and tapestry works of regional masters of Kazakhstan, as well as pieces of artwork of teachers and students of Kazakh National University of Arts.

The aim of the joint exhibition of QazaqGeography and the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the presentation of new creative searches in the technique of felt products. Our task is to preserve and support the pedagogical potential of the masters in the aesthetic education of youth.

“Currently, there is a huge number of styles and trends in easel, monumental painting, graphics and sculpture, as well as in decorative and applied art. Applied art is the cultural memory of the people. Folk art is the past living in the present. Among the most popular crafts of Kazakhstan, we can distinguish products from felt, which reflects all historical layers and material and spiritual culture of our ancestors,” says Armat Bektas, art expert and exhibition curator.

The headliners of the exhibition are the works of four Ankauov brothers – the founders of the ArlanDesign gallery. All four since childhood have been ill with Duchenne Erb-Roth myopathy, a rare disease that causes damage to the musculoskeletal system. The Ankauov brothers are the founders of a unique (received a patent for an invention) application technique of sheep wool. They create beautiful masterpieces of applied art, inspired by the nomadic way of life of our ancestors, traditions and customs. This technology has no analogues in the world. Works of Botagoz Toles will also be presented, among her works there are “Royal,” “Dream Caravan,” “Jazz” and many others.

The exhibition will be open until Sep. 30, 2019.
