Astana hosted the latest round of political consultations with participation of Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roman Vasilenko and Spain's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ildefonso Castro.

Political consultations took place under the banner of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries and on the eve of important events of bilateral cooperation - visits by the leadership of Spain to participate in the exhibition.

Considering the exhibition in Astana, R. Vasilenko noted the importance of Spain's achievements in the field of alternative energy.

Spain is one of Kazakhstan's key political partners in Europe, the second country in the region with which Kazakhstan signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement (2009). In 2016, the volume of trade turnover amounted to 1.35 billion USD.

The active work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation in the Field of Economics and Industry and the Kazakhstan-Spain Business Council greatly contributes to the expansion of economic and investment cooperation.

The parties discussed prospects for political, economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, noted the need to expand the legal framework in various fields. In addition, an exchange of views took place on current international issues.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Spain welcomed Kazakhstan's foreign policy initiatives, primarily in the framework of the UN Security Council, expressed Spain's readiness to provide further support to our country in the international arena.
