Minister of Information and Communication Dauren Abayev has highlighted the need to eliminate the digital gap between the cities and the countryside during his speech at the Astana Digital Forum.

“It’s difficult to overrate digital technologies in a modern world and even the fact the we are talking about this and trying not to lag behind, to be on the forefront, speaks volumes. The internet is growing, social networks are developing, digital technologies are emerging. Historically speaking, the pace of digitalization is so rapid that one needs some far-sightedness to have a chance to use digitalization as a factor of competitiveness,” – Dauren Abayev said in his welcoming speech.

The Minister also dwelled on the main areas of the implementation of the Digital Kazakhstan program.

“The Digital Kazakhstan program consists of a number of directions – the first is the foundation: Digital Silk Way. We must build the infrastructure, thoroughly create fiber-optic communication, and to be frank – there is a digital gap between the cities and the countryside. If we want to be competitive, we need the same quality internet, television broadcasting, and so on – the infrastructure needs to be the same in both cities and villages. This is why we are doing this work. Before 2021, we will additionally provide internet access to more than 2 million people,” – Dauren Abayev added.
