During today’s press conference following the Government meeting, Deputy Minister of Investments and Development Roman Sklyar elaborated on the introduction of toll roads within the framework of the Nurly Zhol State Program.

According to the Deputy Minister, since 2013, there has been a single toll road in Kazakhstan, the section of the Astana-Shchuchinsk highway stretching 217km.

“As of now, it has completely proven its relevance. This section of the highway is maintained solely at the expense of tolls, without attracting budget funds,” – he stressed.

In this regard, the Ministry of Investments and Development plans to further ensure defect-free road maintenance only through tolls. At the same time, minor, medium, major repairs and reconstruction of roads will be carried out at the expense of the National budget.

R. Sklyar also reported that in December of this year, three more sections will become chargeable: Astana-Temirtau, Almaty-Kapshagay, and Almaty-Khorgos. Maintenance work is currently being finalized at the sites.

“Next year, we plan to introduce more than 5.5 thousand km of toll roads, which will also be maintained without attracting budget funds,” – the Deputy Minister summed up.
