Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov held meetings with the delegations of the Syrian government and the armed opposition participating in the 7th round of the Astana process.

During both meetings the delegations thanked the leadership of Kazakhstan for the consistent stand on the peaceful settlement in Syria and for the solid organization of the negotiation process, informed the Minister about their positions on the most important issues on the agenda of the ongoing talks in Astana and the progress of discussions with guarantor countries on ways to achieve sustainable peace on the Syrian land.

Particular attention in the current round of negotiations is paid to issues related to the release of hostages and prisoners, the transfer of bodies of the deceased and the search for missing persons, mine clearing in the vast areas of Syrian territory and the security of unhindered access of humanitarian aid to the country’s various settlements.

The participants of the meetings expressed their commitment to fruitful work within the framework of the Astana process.
