The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan plans to consider individual online courses as credits. This was reported by Deputy Minister Askhat Aimagambetov at a round table on the development of higher education in Nazarbayev University.

The roundtable was organized by the Committee for Social and Cultural Development of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan to discuss the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Enhancing the Academic Managerial Independence of Higher Educational Institutions."

“Today we are working on the development of online education. There are good courses around the world - Coursera, ABIX, Nokia. Today they are gaining great popularity, and we believe that Kazakhstan should not stand aside. 15 universities created a consortium at Al-Farabi KazNU and there are many courses already, students are registering. We are now thinking about recognizing certain courses and considering them as credits,” – A. Aimagambetov said.
