The naval operational headquarters of the Anti-terrorist Center is being established in Aktau. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Investments and Development Roman Sklyar at the extended meeting of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Defense and Security.

“A number of measures have been implemented to ensure counter-terrorist protection of sea facilities. In particular, amendments were made to legislation on merchant shipping, obliging the owners of ports and sea vessels to have plans for prompt response in the event of a terrorist threat,” – Roman Sklyar said.

The Deputy Minister also added that ships are equipped with an alert system reacting to attacks; a long-distance satellite tracking system is being implemented to monitor ships.

“In addition, the requirements for the identification of ship crew members have been toughened; in particular, the provision of biometric data is now mandatory. Also, according to the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the naval operational headquarters of the ATC (the headquarters of the Anti-terrorist Center) is being created in the city of Aktau. The structure will include all involved state bodies, the headquarters will be managed by the Head of the Coast Guard Administration of the General Staff of the Border Service of the NSC,” – Roman Sklyar summarized.
