During today’s Government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Minister of Education and Science Yerlan Sagadiyev reported on the digitalization of education.

According to Yerlan Sagadiyev, the Ministry outlined new directions for further introduction of digitalization in education and science.

First of all, this is the mobility and total accessibility of all services to paper documents and information. So that any student, teacher, parent or principal can get relevant information via their smartphones. This will allow students to see their grades, homework assignments, textbooks, to use all the world's digital resources.

Secondly, digitalization means openness and justice. All the necessary information, from queues to kindergartens to issues of obtaining a certificate or diploma, should be publicly available.

Thirdly, each student or teacher should be given the opportunity to have free access to textbooks in the state and Russian languages, the best world and Kazakhstan lectures, interactive lessons from home or from another place via smartphones or computers, at any time of the day.

Fourthly, the Ministry attaches great importance to the integration of all data into one database, implementation of BigData technologies, online analysis, which will allow managing all the processes from one situational center.

To date, the Ministry of Education and Science has developed a step-by-step schedule for the introduction of digital technologies in these four areas and has begun implementing it.

“In 2016-2017, more than 14 000 multimedia kits were purchased. This year, transfers from the National budget for the amount of 6 billion tenge have been allocated for these purposes, for the third consecutive year the Akimats have bought more than 10 000 sets for educational institutions. The task is to increase the availability of multimedia kits to rural and urban schools by up to 80%,” – Yerlan Sagadiyev said.

Regarding the availability of the Internet, 99% of schools are now connected to the Internet. However, only 62% of schools have access to fast Internet, 47% of schools are connected to Wi-Fi. In accordance with the Digital Kazakhstan Program there are plans to connect all schools. More than 4 thousand schools have introduced electronic grade books. They are used by 50% of schoolchildren.

In addition, the Education Ministry also provides public services. The Ministry has 73 state services in total. 25 of them are automated. Currently the Ministry’s database is integrated with the bases of other state bodies on the e-gov platform. In the next two years it is planned to automate and optimize another 48 services.

The Minster said that an equally important area is teaching people the basics of digitization.

“150 thousand teachers and one and a half million parents are to be trained to use our databases,” – Yerlan Sagadiyev summed up.
