Today’s press conference in the Government press center covered the implementation of the special project of the Ministry of Culture and Sport “Sacred Geography of Kazakhstan”. The topic was elaborated upon by Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport Aktoty Raimkulova, Chairman of the Board of the National Company “Kazakh Tourism” Rashid Kuzembayev, Director of the Center for Regional Studies “Sacred Kazakhstan” Berik Abdigaliully.

According to A. Raimkulova, the first stage of the project "Sacral Geography of Kazakhstan" has been completed. Within the framework of the Rukhani Zhanghyru program, the books Sacred Sites of Kazakhstan of National Importance and Regional Sacred Sites of Kazakhstan were published, as well as the first volume of the encyclopedia Sacred Kazakhstan in Kazakh and Russian languages.

The Ministry is also working to promote the cultural image of Kazakhstan. 30 videos for social networks on sacral sites in Kazakh, Russian and English were produced. They, according to the Deputy Minister, are designed to promote regions with sacred sites.

At the same time, the series of films "Sacral Geography of Kazakhstan", "Golden Warrior", "Mausoleums of Khoja Ahmet Yassaui and Aisha Bibi", produced with the participation of BBC World News and other documentary films were released. Almost all the films will be distributed with subtitles and dubbing in the six UN languages, as well as broadcasted on the Discovery, Viasat history, National Geographic TV channels with an audience of over 700 million people.

“The world premiere of films is scheduled for June-July 2018. They will promote the image of Kazakhstan at the international level, as well as make the rich culture and geography of the country's sights famous,” - A. Raimkulova added.

In order to develop the cultural and tourist cluster of the Northern, Western regions and Astana, three National museum-reserves have been created: Bozoq, Botay and Saraishyk. In 2017, research and restoration work was completed on 25 monuments of history and culture of national importance, which are mainly sites included in the list of national sites of Kazakhstan.

Chairman of the Board of NC Kazakh Tourism R. Kuzembayev is convinced that the project "Sacral Geography" will contribute to the development of domestic tourism.

“Every Kazakhstani family should have its own Top-10 natural places and Top-10 historical and cultural sites in Kazakhstan, must-visit places,” – R. Kuzembayev said.

In turn, Director of the Center for Regional Studies "Sacred Kazakhstan", Candidate of Political Sciences Berik Abdigaliully noted that work on determining the sacred sites of Kazakhstan is still ongoing.

“We have compiled lists of sacred sites, included them in the Map, now there is an analysis, a discussion with scientists, the public in the regions. New sacred sites will be included in the interactive map of sacred places. It will be constantly updated with new sites. Now we are only at the beginning of the road,” - B. Abdigaliully specified.

According to the scientist, during the first year of the project implementation, it was possible to stir the public's interest in its origins, history, and legends, which speaks of the spiritual revival of the nation. The Head of State, initiating the adoption of such a large-scale project, also aims at this.

Recall that in April 2017, Nursultan Nazarbayev's article “The Course towards Future: Modernization of Public Consciousness” was published, one of the priorities of which was the creation of the project “Sacred Geography of Kazakhstan”. Sacred places reflect the long and eventful life of the people, the struggle for independence. Various scientists are involved in the work on cataloguing sacred sites: archaeologists, historians, ethnologists, philologists, orientalists.
