Foreign Affairs Minister of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov is currently on a visit to New York, where he arrived to attend the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.

Kazakh delegation took part in the official opening of the high-level debate of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, where UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, President of the USA Barack Obama and the heads of other states made their speeches according to established tradition. Speech by the Head of the Kazakh delegation is scheduled for the second half of the week.

On this day, Kazakh Foreign Affairs Minister has met with his foreign counterparts - foreign ministers of Lesotho M. Tsekoa, Moldova - N. Herman, Niger - M. Bazum, Sudan - A. Carty and Uruguay - L. Almagro.

The sides discussed issues of cooperation, cooperation in the framework of international organizations, Kazakhstan's bid for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018, and exchanged views on international issues.

Also E. Idrissov met with OSCE Secretary General L. Zannier, and they discussed the efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, regional situation in Central Asia, as well as mechanisms for further cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OSCE.

Kazakh delegation also attended and spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council chaired by the United States on "Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts". Kazakhstan became one of the co-authors of resolution calling for tough measures against those entering the ranks of extremist organizations adopted unanimously at the meeting of the UN Security Council.

At the end of the day the head of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in a number of events organized in the framework of the UN General Assembly, where he had a brief conversation with the Prime Minister of Japan S. Abe, King of Spain Philip VI, President of the European Council of H. Van Rompuy and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security for the EU C. Ashton and Foreign Affairs Minister of Italy Federica Mogherini. In addition, E. Idrisov met with newly appointed UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Z. Al Hussein and President of the International Red Cross P. Maurer.
