Volume of oil and condensate production in Kazakhstan in 2020 amounted to 85.7 million tons — Nurlan Nogayev

At the government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev reported on the development results fuel and energy complex of the country for 2020.

According to the minister, the volume of oil and condensate production for the specified period amounted to 85.7 million tons.

Oil production in the republic in 2020 decreased from 90 million to 85.7 million tons.

In connection with the spread of the coronavirus and strict restrictive measures in many countries, a decrease in the consumption of oil and oil products in the world, the rapid accumulation of oil and oil products and the risks of overflowing world oil depots, in 2020 the Government introduced restrictive measures on oil production. In addition, the OPEC + countries have taken similar measures to limit oil production.

“Thanks to these measures, a gradual restoration of the balance of supply and demand is observed on the world oil market, oil quotations fluctuate from $18 to $50 per barrel," Nogayev noted.

For large companies in the oil and gas industry, the indicators are as follows:

  • TCO produced 26.4 million tonnes of oil over the specified period, which is 100% in line with the reporting year's plan.
  • Oil production at NCOC is 15.1 million tons. Also, the 2020 plan is 100% fulfilled.
  • KPO's indicator is 12 million tons, which is 103% of the plan.

During the year, 68.5 million tons of oil were exported, which amounted to 101.8% of the plan.

By the end of 2020, 55.2 billion cubic meters of gas were produced. This is 100% of the plan. The volume of domestic gas consumption amounted to 17.2 billion m³, the figure was fulfilled by 104.2% against the plan. The volume of production of liquefied petroleum gas is 3.2 million tons, which is 100% of the plan. The volume of exported gas is 10.7 billion cubic meters. This is 102% of the plan.

The minister reported that according to the results of 12 months of last year, 11.53 million tons of oil products have been produced.

About 4.48 million tons of gasoline, 4.55 million tons of diesel fuel, 2.1 million tons of fuel oil, 438 thousand tons of aviation fuel, 1 million tons of bitumen have been produced.

“Today the domestic market is fully provided with petroleum products produced in the country,” Nogayev noted.

As for oil and gas chemical products, its volume reached 359.3 thousand tons or 103%.

Electricity generated over the past year was 108 billion kWh.

Major accidents during the reporting period, according to the minister, were not registered.

In the field of uranium mining, the total for the year amounted to 19.5 thousand tons, which is 101% of the plan.

“Renewable energy is becoming the main trend in the global energy sector. In Kazakhstan, renewable energy is the driving force behind the development of a green economy. We have fulfilled the commitments undertaken in the concept of a green economy, and brought the share of renewable energy in the total energy balance of the country to 3%," Nogayev noted.

At the end of 2020, the volume of electricity generated by renewable energy facilities amounted to 3.15 billion kWh, which is 100% of the 2020 plan.

In 2020, 25 renewable energy projects were implemented with a total capacity of 583 MW. Among them, 10 projects with wind energy, 12 — solar, 1 — water and 2 — bioenergy. As a result, the sector received income of $ 1.5 billion. About 3,000 temporary jobs and about 1,310 permanent jobs were created. In 2021, it is planned to implement 23 facilities with a capacity of 391 MW. The total investment will amount to $370 million.
