Alikhan Smailov discusses issues of bilateral cooperation with Prime Ministers of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

On the sidelines of the Second Regional Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals “Beyond COVID – Towards a Just Recovery in Central Asia”, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov held bilateral meetings with the heads of government of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Thus, at a meeting with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, issues of industrial cooperation, cooperation in agriculture and the transit and transport sector, as well as in the field of water resources were discussed.

It was noted that at the end of 2021, the volume of mutual trade between the countries increased by 33% to $4.3 million, and for 4 months of this year – by 24.5% to $1.4 billion.

“The implementation of the task outlined by the Presidents of the two countries to increase the volume of mutual trade to $10 billion requires a comprehensive approach. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have sufficient economic potential for this. I believe that our regular meetings will help raise Kazakh-Uzbek relations to a new level,” said Alikhan Smailov.

During the meeting with the Chair of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov, a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation was considered, including trade and investment, interaction in the agricultural sector and the water and energy sector.

“Kyrgyzstan is one of the main political and economic partners in the region for us. Today, relations between our countries are successfully developing in all areas,” Alikhan Smailov emphasized.

During the talks, the need was also noted to step up efforts to achieve the goals set in mutual trade – to maintain positive dynamics and increase trade.

At a meeting with the Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda, issues of trade and economic cooperation, the creation of joint ventures in the agro-industrial complex, as well as interaction in industry and the water sector were discussed.

Alikhan Smailov noted that Kazakhstan pays special attention to the further comprehensive expansion of cooperation with Tajikistan.

“The governments of our countries are successfully fulfilling the tasks set. Thanks to joint measures, in 2021 the volume of trade between our countries increased by 1.5 times and reached $1.1 billion. Now we have a goal to bring this figure to $2 billion. I am convinced that we have all the necessary resources for this,” emphasized the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

It should be noted that on June 16, the second regional Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals “Beyond COVID –  Towards a Just Recovery in Central Asia” began its work in Almaty. The summit is organized by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in partnership with the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan with financial support from the European Union and the Asian Development Bank.
