Stabilization of food prices is of paramount importance — Askar Mamin

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin held a meeting in the Digital Office of the Government with the participation of heads of central state bodies and regional akims on the regulation of prices for social significant food products.

Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov, Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev, Akims of the Karaganda region Zhenis Kassymbek, Akim of the North Kazakhstan region Kumar Aksakalov, Akiim of Nur-Sultan Altay Kulginov, Akim of Aktobe region Ondasyn Urazalin, Akim of Zhambyl region Berdibek Saparbayev, Akim of Akmola region Yermek Marzhikpayev and others reported on the current situation and the work being done.

Over the past week, the rise in prices for socially important food products amounted to 0.2%. This was influenced by the rise in prices for eggs by 1.3%, carrots by 0.8% and sugar by 0.7%. The largest increase in egg prices was recorded in Karaganda (7.6%), West Kazakhstan (7.3%) and Akmola (4.8%) regions, for carrots — in Almaty (4.5%), for sugar — in Karaganda region (5.5%).

Financing of the turnaround scheme in the regions increased by 4.4 billion tenge and reached 45.1 billion tenge. The target level is achieved by 90.2%. Purchased 306 thousand tons of socially important goods, which is 12% more compared to the previous week.

The provision of socially significant food products for a three-month period in the country exceeds 90% (+17.6 p.p. per week), the highest indicators for all types of socially significant food products were achieved in the cities of Nur-Sultan and Shymkent, Mangystau, Karaganda, West Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan and Zhambyl regions.

Over the past week, the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition concluded 17 acts of antimonopoly compliance with regional retail chains to reduce trade markups for socially significant food products from 15% to 10%. In general, 125 acts of antimonopoly compliance were concluded in the republic.

The Prime Minister instructed the akims of the regions to intensify efforts to curb prices for socially significant food products, incl. by increasing the financing of the turnaround scheme and bringing the three-month stocks of products to the recommended volumes, organizing uninterrupted interregional flows of food products, as well as timely suppressing the facts of excess trade markups by traders.

“Stabilizing prices for socially significant food products and curbing headline inflation are of paramount importance. It is necessary to carry out systematic work and daily monitoring of the situation for each commodity item,” Mamin said.
