Olzhas Bektenov learns about Kentau CHPP modernisation and industrial development in Turkestan region

As part of his working trip to Turkestan region, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov got acquainted with the activities of the heating centre and transformer plant in Kentau.

CHPP Kentau, built in 1934, is a strategic facility that provides the population of the city with centralised heating. The level of wear and tear of the equipment here is 87 per cent. The last time major repairs were carried out here more than 10 years ago.

In this regard, on the instructions of the Head of State in order to provide Kentau residents and social facilities with quality heat, the project "Reconstruction of boilers of CHPP № 7,8,9,10,11,12 in Kentau" was developed and received a positive conclusion of state expertise. Earlier at the expense of sponsors four boilers, heat main with length of 4.7 km were repaired. Another four boilers are being completely renewed. In April this year, the repair of the remaining two boilers will begin with a completion date by the end of 2025.

"Electricity generation at the CHPP does not cover its own needs, and the tariff does not allow for large-scale reconstruction. In this regard, I instruct the Ministries of Energy and Finance to consider options for financing the repair work for quality provision of heat supply services and ensuring a stable passage of the upcoming heating season," Olzhas Bektenov said. 

Prime Minister also visited the production shop of Kentau transformer plant. This is a large and city-forming enterprise of Kentau, where more than 700 people work. The plant produces power transformers for general purpose and for electrified railway transport, as well as transformer substations. The capacity of the enterprise is 20 thousand units per year, with 30% of production exported.

During the inspection of the enterprise Olzhas Bektenov got acquainted with the ongoing work to improve the technical characteristics and design of manufactured products, measures to expand the production capacity of the plant. As a result, Prime Minister emphasised the importance of additional loading of the domestic manufacturer of electrical equipment. At the same time, the enterprise should assume counter obligations to expand and increase production, modernisation and digitalisation of technological operations.

Here also Head of the Government was reported on the development of manufacturing industry and the implementation of investment projects. Thus, the pool of investment projects for 2024-2027 consists of 145 projects worth 2.2 trillion tenge with the creation of 17.7 thousand jobs. Among them, 44 projects worth 116.8 billion tenge will be implemented this year. In particular, the projects of construction of plants for the production of sulphuric acid, deep processing of corn, plans to create a cotton-textile cluster were presented. In addition, the construction of a modern vegetable storage facility with a capacity of 4 thousand tonnes was launched in the region.

Following the results of the visit to the facility, Prime Minister set a task for the Akimat to take all necessary measures to create a comfortable business climate for active attraction of investors, including expansion of the territory of small industrial parks and special industrial zones.
